Black Lives Matter has come into its own

A few years back when the Black Lives Matter movement came about during the Trayvon shooting, and Fergueson and etc I don't think it was embraced as it is now.  I think White America felt hesitant to embrace it because I think they felt "left out" or excluded in the protests somehow.  You would hear the phrase All Lives Matter.  Hillary Clinton used it during one of the debates.

Eric Garner died uttering the phrase, "I can't breathe."  When the officer had a choke hold on him for selling loosies (individual cigarettes).  This was definitely a case of excessive force

Fast forward to now with George Floyd died saying I can't breathe when a White officer pressed his knee into Floyd's neck for eight minutes.  That awoke everyone, well almost.  This case went world wide even during a pandemic.  People of all colors risked their lives protesting.  Those Black Lives Matter signs were everywhere as well as "I can't breathe."  Even in Europe.

According to Wikipedia the Black Lives Matter movement started in 2013 when George Zimmerman was acquitted in Trayvon Martin's murder and protests erupted nationwide.  In 2013,  Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi founded the Black Lives Matter network.

Trump Speaks - Too Little To Late?

It's good that Trump made this speech to the country and for his base to know that violence is unacceptable.  He did not apologize for what he did and said at that Jan. 6th rally but this is good to calm people down.

Sunday Sermon at Union Cathedral Bishop McCrae -"It Didn't Break Me"

I thank God for Technology.  I am from South Georgia but now live in Richmond, Virginia and the church I attended does live stream of the Sunday Service and Bible Study on Wednesday.  Our pastor is Bishop Wade McCrae.  Today he preached a sermon called, "It Didn't Break Me".  In it King Nebuchadnezzar demands that 3 Hebrews bow down to his god an engraven image.  Meshach, Shadrack, and Abednego did not bow and were thrown into the fire where they were not consumed.  God protected them and Jesus walked in the fire with them. This example of God's love and mercy is something we can see in our lives.  Many times when I was lead astray I thought if only I would have stuck to the Bible teachings.  God is love and he wants us to love others as we would love ourselves.  Bishop McCrae preached The Problem they encountered and Their Purpose was exposed.  He said that people would insinuate things about you Christians.  We don't have to worry about the negative things that

John Lewis a Civil Rights Icon Passes Away

John Lewis dedicated his life to service from civil rights to serving in the House for the state of Georgia since the 80's.  During a time when their was a real struggle for civil rights in the Black Community, Lewis was a champion for the cause.  He was a Freedom Rider and the last surviving member of the "Big Six" organizer and speaker at the March on Washington where Martin Luther King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Yesterday John Lewis's body was driven over the Edmund Pettus Bridge where "Bloody Sunday" happened when police attacked protesters 55 years ago who were marching to Selma, Alabama. John Lewis's life is a testimony of what Black America should aspire to.  As a young man in the 60's he lived the civil rights struggle.
